My Story
Hello, I'm Masika Jeannine Kambere, although many people know me as MJ.
I am the founder of Masika Counselling & Wellbeing.
My journey into counselling is deeply personal.
I am the eldest of six children and was raised by my mother, Elizabeth, whose strength, resilience and unwavering faith shaped the woman I am today. My father passed away in 2017, teaching me first-hand the impact of grief and the importance of compassionate support during life's most difficult moments.
I spent six years living in a refugee camp in Kenya before arriving in Australia in November 2008.
My family was welcomed through the generosity of the Century Refugee Foundation and sponsored by the wonderful community of Bellingen, New South Wales.
Like many people starting over in a new country, I experienced uncertainty, cultural adjustment, identity challenges and the emotional journey of rebuilding a life while holding onto my heritage.
These experiences gave me a deep appreciation for the importance of belonging, connection and culturally responsive care.
Today, they inspire the work I do every day.
My passion is supporting individuals, young people and families to overcome life's challenges while honouring their culture, values and personal story.
"I believe healing begins when people feel genuinely seen, heard and accepted."
